I'm Julian Bell, a teacher and writer who has fallen in love with history.
My main interests are in twentieth century British and Irish social history. As I get older and my daughter grows up, I have a growing hunger to understand the world of my parents, my grandparents, and my own increasingly distant childhood. I feed that hunger by writing novels: The Bloody Question, set amongst undercover Catholics in Elizabethan England, Whatever You Say, Say Nothing, set in Dublin in 1920 at the height of the Anglo-Irish war, and (in progress) My Enemy's Enemy, set in London in 1940 during the Blitz.
